x = -8

Explanation:

6(x - 1) = 9(x + 2)

Distribute:

6x - 6 = 9x + 18

Isolate the x:

-6 = 3x + 18

-24 = 3x

x = -8

CHECK:

6(-8 - 1) = 9(-8 + 2)

54 = 54
