the brits invaded and sacked Washington DC. James Madison n his cabinet members already left when the brits arrived. the soldiers under command by their generals burnt down important bldgs like the Capitol, Treasury n the White House. Dolly, James' wife, was still in DC and ordered evacuation of the WH before the brits burnt it down.
