  • Capulet - He believes that his family's social status is more important than love or happiness: Capuleto is Juliet's father, he wants Juliet to marry Paris, a young nobleman who is related to the prince. He wants this marriage to happen even though Juliet is in love with another because it would bring social status to the family.
  • Mercutio - He dies in a duel because of his pride and his anger: Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, was offended by the fact that Romeo had fled a party and so challenged Romeo to a duel. However, Romeo, who now considers Tybalt his family (because he was already married to Juliet), refuses to fight him. Mercutio feels encouraged to accept the duel in the name of Romeo on account of his "calm submission, vile and insulting." During the duel, Mercutio is fatally wounded
  • Juliet - She is torn between her love for her husband and her grief over her cousin's death: With the death of Mercutio, Romeo becomes furious and kills Tybalt. Because of this, the Prince decides to exile Romeu from Verona on account of the murder. This leaves Juliet very sad and in doubt. He does not know whether to leave the city with Romeo or stay and grieve over his cousin's death
  • Romeo - He believes that being banished from Verona and separated from his love is worse than being sentenced to death: Romeo suffers greatly because of his banishment, because this will cause him and Juliet to be separated and this to him is worse than death.
  • Nurse - She tries to convince her mistress to leave her husband and marry another man: She believes that Romeo only after suffering for Juliet and tries to convince her to marry Paris. According to Nurse, even if the marriage to Paris is an unhappy marriage, it would be better than being in love with someone who is condemned, like Romeo.
