The following question refers to "A Christmas Memory" by Truman Capote.

All of the characters in this story are static. Why do you suppose Capote did this?

The story’s plot revolves around a period in the life of the narrator which is no more; the reason being that not only has the narrator finally changed and become an adult but that his friend has passed away. Therefore; this means that the period has become forever fixed in the narrator’s mind as an unchangeable memory of a person who was very dear to him and of a period that he cherishes. The static characters represent the indelibility of such memory.
