The scientist had used 13/30 of the solution because you change 3/5 to 18/30, then 1/6 to 5/30. 18-5 is equal to 13 which gives me the answer to 13/30.

Answer:

1/10 liters.

Explanation:

If the scientist had 3/5 Liter of solution and used 1/6 of it, he used (1/6)*(3/5) liters. In order to multilply fractions you have to multiply nominator with nominator and denominator with denominator as follow

(1)/(6) * (3)/(5) = (1 * 3)/(6 * 5) = (3)/(30)

Note that you can simplify this results dividing by 3 both nominator and denominator

(3/3)/(30/3) = (1)/(10)

In conclusion, the scientist used 1/10 liters.
