A company plans to correct sick-building syndrome in its headquarters. The company will remove moldy carpeting, install brand-new carpeting, and seal up all cracks in the building in order to keep out new mold and fungus spores. The air ducts will be left alone because they have worked fine for years without any cleaning. Suggest all ways that the company should change its plans, and explain the reason for each change. 1. The air ducts should be inspected and cleaned. They are the main ways through which mold is transported throughout the building.

2. The air ducts should be equipped with new filter systems. If these are already present, the filters should be changed regularly.

3. The humidity should be decreased throughout the building as much as possible. Mold thrives in damp places and grows very well in humid air.

4. All the dark and damp areas of the building should be carefully inspected. Mold will not grow only on carpeting. Cupboards, bathrooms or other such areas are perfect environments.

5. The whole building with sulfur should be used if the infestation is dangerous enough. Otherwise special solutions should be sprayed in the affected areas, especially in the ventilation system.
