Did the New Deal turn the US into a Welfare state?

Answer:

The New Deal did create some forms of welfare in the United States, but it not turn the US into a fully welfare state like some countries in Europe. The New Deal created Medicare, Social Security, and Unemployment Benefits, and these government programs are a form of welfare, but they only cover a particular subset of people: the elderly, the disabled, and the unemployed. Thus, we can see that the U.S. does have welfare after the New Deal, but it is partial welfare, limited in scope.
