Explanation:

Let the acres of corn be = x

Let the acres of wheat be = y

Total acres of land = 430

So, we have
x+y=430 or
x=430-y .....(1)

The cost of planting and harvesting corn is $280 per acre. The cost of planting and harvesting wheat is $125 per acre. The farmer spent $95600 on plantation.

We get another equation as:


280x+125y=95600 .....(2)

Substituting the value of x from (1)


280(430-y)+125y=95600

=>
120400-280y+125y=95600

=>
-280y+125y=95600-120400

=>
-155y=-24800

y = 160

And x =
430-160

x = 270

So, the farmer planted 270 acres of corn and 160 acres of wheat.
