Muslims believe that God finally sent Muhammad as the last law-bearing prophet (Seal of the prophets) to convey the divine message to the whole world (to sum up and to finalize the word of God). In Islam, the "normative" example of Muhammad's life is called the Sunnah (literally "trodden path").

The basis of the Islamic faith is that God sent Muhammed as the last law giving prophet who revealed the last of God's revelations to the world. Those revelations were given to Muhammad by the angel Gabriel and the sacred text from those revelations are the Koran.
