g(x)=h(x)+k

Substitute in

x^2-6 = x^2+3 +k

Subtract x^2 from each side

x^2 -x^2-6 = x^2-x^2+3 +k

-6 = 3+k

Subtract 3 from each side

-6-3 = 3-3+k

-9 =k
