For this case we must propose a linear equation.

Let "x" be the variable that represents the unknown number.

So, we have:

2x: Represents twice the number

2x = 1: Represents that twice the number is equal to one.

We clear the value of "x":

We divide between "2" on both sides of the equation:

\frac {2x} {2} = \frac {1} {2}\\x = \frac {1} {2}

Answer:

x = \frac {1} {2}
