Impressionism was an art movement that appeared during the 19th century. It focused on the inclusion of movement and was based on the use of thin brushes.

Impressionism, though initially criticized by more conventional artists, became the art wave during the period of the revolutions in Europe and Latin America. As all the Latin American countries obtained their independence from the kingdom of Spain during this century.

Impressionism combined the inclusion of movement with the depiction of light, which aided objects in appearing like they were moving. This can be seen in famous paintings such as "Impression, Soleil Levant" by Claude Monet or "The Fighting Temeraire" by J.M.W. Turner.
