What is wrong with this sentence? Hoy es el 3 de agosto

When saying the date you say it kinda backwards. In English I would say "Toady is August 3rd" but in Spanish you would say. "Es el lunes tres de agosto." Also instead of saying "es el" you can say "hoy es"
