What conclusion cannot be drawn?
Jackson’s separation of the crowd to allow Mrs. Delacroix through at the beginning of the lottery is an example of foreshadowing.
Jackson clearly states in the opening paragraph that the gathering takes less than two hours.
Jackson still keeps the reader in suspense by waiting until the very end of the story to reveal the purpose of the stones.
Shirley Jackson published this short story in 1948.
