2x - 3y = 13 → (1)

x + 2y = - 4 → (2)

Multiplying (2) by - 2 and adding to (1) eliminates the term in x

- 2x - 4y = 8 → (3)

Add (1) and (2) term by term

(2x - 2x) + (- 3y - 4y) = (13 + 8)

- 7y = 21 ( divide both sides by - 7 )

y = - 3

Substitute y = - 3 into (1) or (2) for corresponding value of x

(2) → x - 6 = - 4 ( add 6 to both sides )

x = 2

Solution is (2, - 3)
