Well, FOIL it first:

First

Outside

Inside

Last

x*x=x^2

x* -4= -4x

x*3= 3x

3* -4= -12

Together, the simplified product is:

x^2 + -1x-12

So, the middle term is -1

Answer:

The middle term is - x

Explanation:

Use Foil

F: x * x = x^2

O: -4 * x = - 4x

I: 3*x = 3x

L: 3 * - 4 = -12

F+O+I+L = x^2 - 4x + 3x - 12

F+O+I+L = x^2 - x - 12
