Answer:

y = 1/2x - 3/2

Explanation:

y = 1/2x +1 has a slope of 1/2 (It is in the form y = mx+b where m is the slope)

We want a line that is parallel which means it has the same slope

m = 1/2

We have the slope and a point, we can use the point slope form of the equation

y-y1 = m(x-x1)

y--4 = 1/2(x--5)

y+4 = 1/2 (x+5)

Distribute

y+4 = 1/2 x +5/2

Subtract 4 from each side

y+4-4 = 1/2x +5/2 -4

Get a common denominator for the constants on the right

y = 1/2x +5/2 -8/2

y = 1/2x - 3/2
