Explanation:

x^2 + 4x + 4 = 25

I will use completing the square. The left side is a perfect square

(x+2) ^2 = 25

Take the square root of each side

sqrt((x+2) ^2) = sqrt(25)

x+2 = ±5

Subtract 2 from each side

x+2-2 = ±5 -2

x = ±5 -2

x =-5-2 x = 5-2

x = -7 x = 3
