References are used to verify your work and professionalism.

Key points for references:

-The person should actually know you, have worked with you, and can describe your character and work product.

-Permission - never use anyone as a reference without discussing it with them first. The last thing you want is for them to sound confused about why you put them as a reference!

- Professional reference - don't put down family, friends, or anyone who hasn't worked with you in a professional setting. Grandma will say nice things but won't actually help you get the job

- Updated contact information: when you reach out to ask permission, also make sure you have all of the correct updated contact info to put down
