a) So to find f(4) while looking at a graph we are looking for the value of a function at the point where x = 4. So if we have this big curvy line or whatever it may be, the value of that function at x = 4 would be the value of f(4)

So, just plug the value for x in the function each time.

f(4) = -4(4-2)^2 + 11 = -5

f(1) = -4(1-2)^2 + 11 = 7

f(4) + f(1)

-5 + 7 = 2
