Answer:

One challenge that American society had to face after World War II was the Vietnam War. Many people of this time were affected negatively and disagreed with the war for many reasons. This influenced the American literature of the time because it was a way for people to freely express their beliefs in a widespread fashion. One example of this was "Poem" by Murial Ruckeyser. Another challenge faced by the people was femininity and what it truly meant. For a long time, it was believed that to be feminine you had to be beautiful and be good at taking care of children or household duties, however, this belief was challenged through literature. People expressed their opinions that femininity should not be defined through domesticity, but instead through what women are really capable of.

Although the Uinited States was in a better economic position than any other countries after World War II, after a short period new challenges developed.

The most important and known was the menace fo communism that the URSS represented. By 1948, the Cold War had emerged leading to many tensions and conflicts in the years to come. An example of this was the Cuban missile crisis which put the world at the edge of war.

Another challenge was characterized by women. While male soldiers were on the battle front, women took their places in factories, giving them some empowerment. After the war ended, they were forced to return to their homes and accept the role of perfect housewives and mothers. Soldiers wanted to marry young and have children, causing the baby boom. This led to some tensions and the growth of the feminist movement.
