I) if the strand of dna with the sequence tga mutated to gga, would this be a silent or missense mutation? hint: find the rna for both sequences and check to see that they code for different amino acids. (1 point)

  • If the strand of DNA with the sequence TGA, is mutated to GGA it is a missense mutation.
  • The DNA sequence TGA will have the codon ACU in the RNA and, GGA will have the codon CCU.
  • The codon ACU codes for threonine, and the codon CCU codes for proline.
  • Thus, the mutation is causing the formation of a different protein (proline instead of threonine) therefore, the mutation is a missense mutation.
