Paracrine signaling is a type of local signaling in which a cell secretes a signal molecule that affects neighboring cells.
The signaling molecules involved in paracrine signaling are known as
paracrine factors.
These factors are only able to move over a short distance and thus, are able to exert their effect on the nearby cells only.
An example of a paracrine factor is the fibroblast growth factor family.
