Distribute the negative sign.

- * 7 = -7

- * -a = a

a - 7 + a = 5

2a - 7 = 5

•Add seven to both sides.

2a = 12

a = 6

Distribute the negative sign as we did for problem one.

-2 -x + 7

-x + 5 = 3x

Add x to both sides

4x = 5

x = 5/4

As for the previous problems distribute the negative, remember this step is always imperative!

-3x -1 + 4 = 6

-3x + 3 = 6

Subtract 3 in both sides

-3x = 3

x = -1
