Aaron is making a candle by pouring melted wax into a mold in the shape of a cone. The radius of the base of the cone is 5 cm and the height of the cone is 9 cm. To get the wax for the candle, Aaron melts blocks of wax that are each 2 cm by 4 cm by 3 cm. How many of the wax blocks will Aaron need in order to make the candle?

Answer:

Aaron will require 10 blocks of wax to prepare the candle.

Explanation:

Since Aaron is making a candle by poring melted wax into a mold which is in the shape of a cone, so we will calculate the volume of the cone to get the quantity of the wax consumed.

Volume of cone = 1/3×π×r²×h

Volume = 1/3×π×(5)²×9 = 75π = 75×3.14 cm³ = 235.5 cm³

Volume of the block of wax = Length×width×height = 2×4×3 = 24 cm³

So total number of blocks required to make the cone shaped candle

= Volume of cone/Volume of block

= 235.5/24 = 9.81 ≅ 10 blocks

Answer is 10 wax blocks Aaron will require to make the candle.
