Bourbon Democrats was the term used in the later 19th century to refer to members of the Democratic Party who were extremely conservatives and pursue economic freedom.

These democrats were promoters of a system that prevented the government from intervening in transactions between private parties. Government interventions were not accepted. They opposed to subsides, privileges, regulations and tariffs.

Interventions were not negative for every company, business or undertaking. Farm business is one that needs intervention to profit and that is why farmers felt they were being neglected by the policies of the bourbon Democrats.

Everything does not benefit everybody.

Farmers felt like they were being neglected by the policies of the Bourbon democrats because the policies created favored the industry alone and the government was concerned with expanding the industry rather than helping them.
