paul, Jeff, and Jerry worked together repairing Paul's car. Jeff worked twice as many hours as Jerry, and Paul worked six hours more then Jeff. Altogether, they worked 51 hours. How many hours did Paul work?

Okay so, you start by making x the variable to represent Jerry’s hours, that would then make Jeff’s hours 2x (twice as many), and make Paul’s hours 2x+6 (six more than Jeff). Then, you add them all and set it equal to 51. Use algebra to get the value of x. The value of x should be 9, so then you plug the value of x into Paul’s equation for hours worked. Paul worked 24 hours. *work is attached*

Answer: 24 hours

Explanation:

Let x represent the number of hours that Jerry worked, then:

Jerry: x

Jeff: 2x

Paul: 2x + 6

Jerry + Jeff + Paul = Total

x + 2x + 2x + 6 = 51

5x + 6 = 51

5x = 45

x = 9

Jerry: x --> 9

Jeff: 2x --> 2(9) = 18

Paul: 2x + 6 --> 2(9) + 6 = 24
