A clock tower has a large bell that rings on the hour.The edge of the bell has a diameter of 12 feet.What is the edge's circumference?

37.68 feet

Explanation:

The circumference formula is:

C = 2 × pi × radius

or

C = diameter × pi

Both the formulas are the same thing. If you multiply the radius by two, you get the diameter. That is why they are the same.

Now, plug in the diameter in the second formula because, it is more convenient. You can use the first formula and still get the same answer.

C = 12 × 3.14

pi is approximately to 3.14. Unless told so otherwise, use 3.14 as pi. The most accurate fraction form is 22/7 but, 3.14 is more accurate.
