A container holds 3/4 gallon of oil. Rory is changing the oil on his vehicles and needs 6 containers. How many gallons of oil does Rory need?​

Explanation:

To do this one, you need to know the 6 = 6/1

So to find the amount of oil needed, you multiply the amount of containers by how much it can hold which, in this case, is 3/4 gallons.

When multiplying fractions, you multiply the top by the top and the bottom by the bottom

so a/b x c/d would be solved by a x c / b x d

therefore

3/4 x 6

= 3 x 6 / 4 x 1

= 18/4

simplified:

9/2 (divide top and bottom by 2)

mixed fraction:

4 1/2

note: top of a fraction is called the numerator and the bottom of a fraction is called a denominator
