By googling a bit, you can see that the density of sand actually depends on how exactly that sand is composed: which materials form it, how compact it is, how dry it is, etc.
However, in general, the number should be around 1.5 to 1.8 grams per cubic centimeter, so your density seems to be quite too much to be realistic.
