the cost of gas is given as:

$0.95/gallon

the average of car is

20miles / gallon

The distance of trip is 420 miles

Thus the gas consumed for the trip is

Gas consumed = miles covered / car average

gas consumed = 420 / 20 = 21 gallon

The cost of gas will be = total gas consumed X price of each gallon

the cost of gas = 21 X $0.95 =$19.95

Answer : The cost of gasoline for a 420-mile trip is, $19.95

Solution :

As, 20 mile distance covered by 1 gallon of gas

So, 420 mile distance covered by
(420)/(20)=21gallon of gas

Now we have to calculate the cost of gasoline.

As, 1 gallon of gas cost = $0.95

So, 21 gallon of gas cost =
\$0.95* 21=\$19.95

Therefore, the cost of gasoline for a 420-mile trip is, $19.95
