Answer:

x = 18

Explanation:

If a line is parallel to a side of a triangle and it intersects the other 2 sides, it divides those sides proportionally, hence

(x)/(12) =
(x+6)/(16) ( cross- multiply )

16x = 12(x + 6)

16x = 12x + 72 ( subtract 12x from both sides )

4x = 72 ( divide both sides by 4 )

x = 18

Answer:

18

Explanation:

12/x = 16 / (x + 6)

Cross multiply

16x = 12(x + 6)

Distributive property

16x = 12x + 72

4x = 72

x = 18
