A trampoline has a diameter of 14 feet. If the man wishes to put up netting to go around the outside of the trampoline, how many feet of netting does he need? Give the exact circumference of the trampoline and then an approximation.

Answer :)

  1. Approximate Circumference = 43.96
  2. Exact Circumference = 43.982297

Step-by-step explanation:

Formula Used: C=2πr

Step 1:

Divide Diameter by 2.

14ft / 2ft = 7ft

Radius = 7ft

Step-by-step explanation:

The radius is the length from one inner side of a circle to the middle. While the diameter or a circle is the entire length across!

Step 2:

Multiply 7 (radius) times 3.14 (approximate pi) times 2

7 x 3.14 x 2 = 43.96

Approximate Circumference = 43.96

Explanation:

The question states that you are to find the approximate circumference AND the exact circumference. The difference is pi. You may have seen the pi symbol on your calculator when calculating exact circumference. It looks like this π. But sometimes we are asked to find the "not exact circumference" that is called the 'approximate' circumference. The not so scientific pi is shortened to 3.14.

Step 3:

Multiply 7 times π times 2

7 x π x 2 = 43.982297

Exact Circumference = 43.982297

I hope this helps!
