((y_(2)-y_(1)))/((x_(2)-x_(1)))=((-4 - 8))/(2 - x)=(4)/(1)

Cross-multiply: 4(2 - x) = -12

Distribute: 8 - 4x = -12

Subtract 8 from both sides: 8 - 4x - 8 = -12 - 8 or -4x = -20

Solve for x: x = 5
