1) 144 = -12(x+5)

2) 144= -12x - 60

*Adding + 60 on both sides*

3) 60 + 144 = -12x -60 +60

* +60 -60 =0*

*60 + 144 = 204*

4) 204 = -12x

5) 204/12 = -x

6) 17 = -x

* multiply both sides by -1 to get the variable x to be positive*

7) x = -17

[<Answer>] (3):

Hello! I'm Avery. And I would love to help you :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[<The Explanation>}:

Step one: Distribute

144 = -12(x + 5)

144 = -12x - 60

Step two: Add 60 to both sides

144 = -12x - 60\\144 + 60 = -12 - 60 + 60

Step three: Simplify

Adding..Adding..(Done!):
204 = -12x

Step four: Divide both sides by the same factor

204 = -12x\\(204)/(-12) = (-12x)/(-12)

Last and not least..Step five:

Divide then, Cancel the terms, Move the Variable to the left...

And.. x = -17 is the answer :D

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope this helps and if it's wrong, you can't sue me! >:D

Bye! Hope this works for you :)

Have a nice day! - Avery <3
