Method: count the total number of tiles from the center of the border at one corner to the border centers of two adjacent corners. Multiply that number (9+6=15) by 2 to get the total centerline length of the border (30). The width of the border is 2 tiles, so we multiply the centerline length by 2 again to get the number of border tiles (60).

Multiply the number of border tiles (60) by the area of each: (1.5 m)² = 2.25 m². This will give the area of the tile border.

Solution:

border area = (60 tiles)×(2.25 m²/tile) = 135 m²
