Ben Franklin at a meeting of colonial representatives in 1753, presented a plan called: Albany Plan of Union, in an attempt to unite the colonies to better protect themselves against the French and their Indian allies. This plan required an intercolonial government composed of a general president and a Grand Council that could make treaties with Indians, enact laws and form an army.
