American Indians were removed from their original homelands, whcih were located all along the eastern part of the United States. This was traumatic process for them, as incidentes such as "The Woudned Knee Massacre" took place, generating animadversion of the rest of the citizens towards this group.
However, Westward expansion laid path for Indians to be relocated in zones were they could live peacefully without any disturbance from settlers. Areas of what are nowadays North Dakota and South Dakota were designated as reserved zones were Indians could establish their communities.
