Nick wants to fence in a rectangular section of his yard to make a dog run that has a perimeter of at least 48 ft. The total length of the two shorter sides of the dog run will be 16 ft. Write an inequality to represent the relationship between the possible length, e, of each of the longer sides of the dog run and its perimeter

Answer:

16 + l ≥ 48

Explanation:

We already know the lengths of the other two shorter sides, that’s 16ft. We also know what the smallest length Nick would want for the section of his yard, 48ft. At least means greater than or equal to because the lengths will be either equal to or larger than 48 and 48 is smallest. Pretty self expository once you get used to it and you think about it. “l” is a variable and has nothing to multiply, divide, or subtract to so we’re adding it to 16.

16 + l ≥ 48

Remember this in an inequality, not an equality so we’re not using an equal sign. But using an equal sign for now and then changing it to an inequality symbol is easier, go for it.
