“It had a spell put on it Buy an old fakir”, said the sergeant major, “a very holy man. He wanted to show that fate ruled peoples lives, and that those who interfered with it did so to their sorrow. He put a spell on it so that the three separate men could each have three wishes from it.

Answer:

Option C. The following sentence best explains what the author is foreshadowing in the passage:

Mr White will come to regret any wishes he makes on the monkey's paw.

Step-by-step explanation:

Through the passage, the author is foreshadowing how the story will unfold now that the Whites have came across the monkey's paw. Sentences like "Mrs white drew back with a grimace, but her son, taking it, examined it curiously" and "He wanted to shot that fate ruled people's lives, and that those who interfered with it did so to their sorrow." help the reader to being to understand that the monkey's paw is more of a disgrace than a blessing, and that Mr White will come to regret any wishes he makes on it, as it will be him messing up with his and his family's fate.
