Explanation:

Given the 2 equations

y = 5x - 9 → (1)

y = x + 3 → (2)

Substitute y = 5x - 9 into (2)

5x - 9 = x + 3 ( subtract x from both sides )

4x - 9 = 3 ( add 9 to both sides )

4x = 12 ( divide both sides by 4 )

x = 3

Substitute x = 3 into either of the 2 equations and evaluate for y

Substituting into (2)

y = 3 + 3 = 6

solution is (3, 6 )
