Explanation:

For the triangles to be congruent then corresponding sides are equal

that is BC = ED and AC = AD, that is

x = y - 1 → (1)

3x - 2 = 2y + 1 → (2)

substitute x = y - 1 into (2)

3(y - 1) - 2 = 2y + 1

3y - 3 - 2 = 2y + 1

3y - 5 = 2y + 1 ( subtract 2y from both sides )

y - 5 = 1 ( add 5 to both sides )

y = 6

substitute y = 6 into (1) for corresponding value of x

x = 6 - 1 = 5
