Biological - Addiction is a chronic disorder with biological, psychological, social and environmental factors that all influence its development and maintenance. A statistic is given from the American Psychological Assiciation that about half the risk for addiction is genetic. Many times a person with addiction can change their social scene, change friends, go to therapy and counseling, enroll in 12 step programs, go to rehab, all with the best intentions and still relapse. This is due to the biological side of addiction.
