There were many tribes living in the Mississippi river valley during this period, and all of them were known for being a Mount Building Culture. According to archaeologists, these Native American Civilizations were very successful in constructing urban complexes and provisional villages, which were connected by commercial routes. It is understood that these commercial ways were very important to establish trades among tribes.

The shapes of their constructions were very varied, and they had square forms, rectangular and sometimes circular. The uses for these structures were also diversified, and they could be used for houses, ritual temples and for burial structures.

the biggest and most prolific city of this culture was Cahokia, which many experts considered to be used as a significant religious center.
