Sabrina has a rug with a perimeter of 18 feet. She decides to place a border around the rug so that the new length of the rug is 8 feet and the width is 4 feet. The border is the same width all the way around. The equation which represents x, the width of the border is 2(8-2x)+ 2(4-2x)=18. What is the width of the border?

Hello!

The answer is: a.
(3)/(4)

Why?

Since we are given the equation which represents the width of the border (x) we only need to isolate the variable (x), so:

2(8-2x)+2(4-2x)=18\\16-4x+8-4x=18\\24-8x=18\\8x=24-18\\8x=6\\x=(6)/(8)=(3)/(4)

So, the width of the border is:
(3)/(4)

Have a nice day!
