we just need add x next to ratio and sum them all to get perimeter

9 + x + 2x + 4x = 65

7x = 56

x = 8

well since 8(x)<9<16(2x)<(32(4x), then

the shortest side is 8

Answer:

8

Explanation:

The perimeter is adding all 4 sides

We know one side is 9

The other three sides are in the ratio

1:2:4

Multiply by x to give the side lengths

x, 2x, 4x

The Perimeter is

9+ x+2x+4x=65

9+7x=65

Subtract 9 from each side

9-9 +7x =65-9

7x = 56

7x/7 = 56/7

x=8

The shortest side is 8
