Yak Travel Agency arranges trips for climbing Mount Everest. For each trip, they charge an initial fee in addition to \$0.15 for each vertical meter climbed. For instance, the price for climbing all the way to the summit, which is 3500 meters above the base of the mountain, is \$645. Let F(d) denote the fee of a trip F (measured in dollars) as a function of the vertical distance climbed d (measured in meters). Write the function's formula.

Answer:

Function will be F(d) = 120 + 0.15d

Explanation:

Given: Height of the mountain = 3500 meters

Additional charge $0.15 for each vertical meter climbed.

Price for climbing all the way above the base is $645.

To find: Function of the vertical distance climbed in terms of F(measured in $),F(d) fee of a trip and vertical distance d ( in meters).

Solution: Let the total price = F, Initial price = I, and d = vertical distance climbed.

Then formula will be F = I + .15×d

By putting values of F and d

645 = I +0.15×3500

I = 645 - 525 = $120

Therefore the function will be

F(d) = 120 + 0.15d
