Answer:

11 cans. (GOOD IDEA TO REMEMBER VARIABLES)

Explanation:

OK first thing first is to get the area.

"The ceiling is in the shape of a square. Its side lengths are 55 feet."

In area you multiply 2 sides to get the area.

55 (feet) x 55 (feet) = 3, 025 (feet squared)

Now we also have the paint:

"Suppose each can of paint will cover square 275 feet."

Now you are supposed to divide:

3, 025 / 275 = 11

11 cans are needed to paint this ceiling.

Answer:

11 cans

Explanation:

Since you know that the ceiling is in the shape of a square and each side is 55ft, you can multiply 55x55 to get 3075, which is divided by 275 due to the amount of paint in a can. It would result in 11 cans, but if it were a decimal like 11.3, then you would need 12 cans since you can't split a can.
