Final answer:

The revival of the Ku Klux Klan was principally inspired by the release of the film 'The Birth of a Nation' in 1915, which depicted the Klan heroically and catalyzed its rebirth with expanded nativist ideologies.

Step-by-step explanation:

The event that inspired the revival of the Ku Klux Klan in the 20th century was the release of D. W. Griffith's The Birth of a Nation. This 1915 film depicted the original Klan positively and played into white supremacist narratives, resonating strongly with many Americans at the time. The film's release and its portrayal of the Klan as heroic defenders significantly influenced the resurgence of the Klan. The Second Klan formed with a new emphasis on broader nativism, targeting not only African Americans but also Catholics, Jews, and immigrants. This new Klan, officially distancing itself from violence while often perpetuating it, quickly gained mainstream support and expanded rapidly - at its peak boasting 4 million members by 1925.

Founded in 1866, the original Klan was a reaction to the perceived injustices of Reconstruction post-Civil War and used violence to terrorize African Americans and White Republicans. The Second Klan, initiated in 1915, adapted to the social and political climate of the time by also focusing on anti-immigrant and anti-Catholic sentiment, which found fertile ground in the post-World War I era characterized by the Red Summer of 1919, where racial and ethnic tensions led to violence across the United States.

Angry old white guys that are angry at angry old black guys. It simply comes down to racism most people when kids probably grew up in the slave era and became racist and the "New Klu Klux Klan" was most likely around those people during that time and so they followed and here we go the KKK is back but they are less "KILL THE BLACKS BURN THE FLAG" and more Black Friendly.
