a = -1

Explanation:

The slope, m from point -2,7 to a,2 has to be -5

m = (y1-y2)/(x1-x2)

-5 = ( 7-2)/(-2 -a) solve for 'a'......cross multiply

10+ 5a = 5

5a = -5

a = -1
